How to import comments from Disqus?

Disqus is a famous commenting platform. If you currently use Disqus and hoping to migrate to Hyvor Talk, this guide will help you.

Important! Before importing, make sure that you have carefully read the Introduction to Importing guide. This guide explains how the importing process works and the limitations of importing. After reading that, continue the following steps.

Disqus and Hyvor Talk comments

Disqus and Hyvor Talk both works in a quite similar way except the commenting model. Disqus has a multi-nested commenting model while Hyvor Talk has a single-nested commenting model. When importing to Hyvor Talk, multiple-nested comments will be changed to single-nested comments.

Hyvor Talk vs Disqus

Step 1: Exporting Comments

  1. Go to Disqus Admin > Community > Export
  2. Click "Export"
  3. The exported file will be emailed
  4. Download the file

If the above steps do not work, please refer to the Disqus's guide.

Step 2: Importing Comments

  1. Go to the Hyvor Talk console.
  2. Go to the import section.
  3. Choose Disqus from the Import From option.
  4. Select the downloaded file by clicking Choose File.
  5. Click Upload

Step 3: Keep Waiting

Importing may take some time depending on the length of the queue. Therefore, allow up to 24 hours. You will receive an email once the importing process is completed. You can check the status from the Import History section of the console (Console -> Import -> Import History).

After Importing

Once the importing process is successful, you can replace Disqus with Hyvor Talk. What to do next will depend on the methods you use to install Disqus and Hyvor Talk on your website.

1. Manual Installation

If you had previously installed Disqus on your website using their universal code and you are thinking to use Hyvor Talk's manual installation, make sure you set the same ID that you used for the Hyvor Talk code.

Disqus's Code

var disqus_config = function () {
    this.page.identifier = "MY_PAGE_ID"; <-- This one
};

Hyvor Talk's Code

var HYVOR_TALK_CONFIG = {
    id: "MY_PAGE_ID" <-- Should also be here
};

2. WordPress Installation

If you used Disqus's WordPress plugin earlier, you can simply replace that with Hyvor Talk WordPress plugin. Everything should work fine.

3. Other Installations

If your CMS is supported by Hyvor Talk, follow the corresponding installation guides. If it is not supported, you will need to dig into your source code and find Disqus's code. Then, follow the steps in Manual Installation above.

If that does not work, go to Hyvor Talk Console -> Pages. Here, you will see the imported pages. You have to add the value of the identifier to each page. This is can usually be the database ID of your post.

If the comments still do not appear on your website, you will need some help from our technical team.
